Applying Session Templates and Packages

A Session Template Package contains a set of session templates that were originally created using a selected test clip. Each session template pertains to a specific attribute/value pair from the original session. For example, the first session template in the My .Net Template Package below is _EVENTVALIDATION.

Existing session template packages can be viewed via the new Central > Session Templates list.

  • Click the arrow for a package to expand the session templates in it.

Apply a Session Template Package from Session Templates List

  1. Navigate to Central > Session Templates.
  2. In the Session Templates list, select the Session Template Package to apply.
  3. Right-click the selected package folder and select Apply to a Test Clip.

  1. The Test Clip Explorer dialog box appears. Select the test clip to which this package will be applied and click OK.

The Applying Session Templates page appears and immediately starts to apply the selected template(s). Progress is shown in the green progress bar.

The number of applied session templates is noted under the progress bar, and the applied templates are listed. Additional information is provided by the Name, Extracted Value, Found in Response, and Used in Request(s) fields.

  1. Click OK to exit.

Adding a Session Template to a New Package

An existing session template can be added to a new package via the Central > Session Templates list. Use this feature to create session template packages from existing session templates.

  1. Navigate to Central > Session Templates.
  1. In the Session Templates list, locate one or more session template entries in the list (e.g. not under a package folder).
  1. Once selected, right-click and select the Add to a New Package… command.

The New Session Template Package dialog box appears.

  1. Assign a name to the new package and optionally assign an existing or create a new folder for it.
  2. Click OK to create the new session template package.

Removing Session Template from a Package

An existing session template can be revised by removing one or more session templates from it. Use this feature to fine tune existing session template packages.

  1. Navigate to Central > Session Templates.
  1. In the Session Templates list, locate the session template package to revise and expand it.

  1. Locate the individual session template in the list (e.g. not under a package folder) and select it.
  2. Right click the selected session template and select the Remove from Package command.

The session template is removed from the session template package.

Applying a Session Template from the Session Templates List

  1. Navigate to Central > Session Templates.
  2. In the Session Templates list, locate the session template’s individual entry in the list (e.g. not under a package folder).
  3. Right-click the selected session template and select Apply to a Test Clip.
  1. The Test Clip Explorer dialog box appears. Select the test clip to which this package will be applied and click OK.

The Applying Session Templates page appears and immediately starts to apply the selected template(s). Progress is shown in the green progress bar.
