Creating an External Data Service

An external data source can be defined in the Central list > Server Resources section > via the External Data Sources node. External data charts are presented in real-time, like any other chart, and can be viewed from a point in time (such as the timeframe of a result or a specific relative or absolute time range). Currently, the CA Wily Introscope data format is supported.

Once configured, an external data source appears in the Dashboards, Widget Type list where its widgets can be added to dashboards alongside CloudTest widgets. CloudTest presents Introscope aggregate data at any capacity supported by the user’s credentials.

Creating a New External Data Service

  1. Navigate to Central > External Data Sources.
    1. Click New.

The External Data Sources dialog box appears.

  1. Enter a server name.
  2. Optionally, specify a folder location and description.
  3. Select the CA Wily Introscope type.
  4. Determine whether to connect directly or use the SOASTA Conductor as the connection method. As with Monitor Servers, a direct connection is used whenever possible, and Conductor can be used in cases where the server is behind a firewall.

  1. Provide a valid URL, username, and password for the given server.
  2. Use Test Connection to verify that the connection is successful and then click OK.

The configured external data source is added to the External Data Sources list in Central.

Additionally, External Data appears as a new entry in the Check Server tree alongside other CloudTest services. Check Server(s) is viewed from within the Central > Servers and Server Instances lists using the lower panel Check Server(s) tab. When check server is run, the external data service is checked along with all the others.
