Monitoring Server Groups

The Monitoring Server Groups feature provides features similar to Windows’ Task Monitor that permit monitoring of server-side performance information during the play of Test Compositions. In SOASTA CloudTest, a Monitor Server Group defines the hardware or software end-point that will be monitored.

You can monitor System Resources, Application Servers, Databases, and ColdFusion development framework.

In SOASTA CloudTest, a Monitor Server Group typically requires the hostname and authentication credentials (with the exception of the built-in CPU Percentage, IO Kbytes Read, IO Kbytes Written, and Memory Usage of SOASTA CloudTest itself).

Create a New Monitor Server or Monitoring Server Group

  1. In the Central list, select Monitoring Server Groups.

  1. Click New on the toolbar.

Note: If you're on a different Central list node, you can also click the drop-down on the New icon and select New Monitoring Server.

  1. The Add a New Monitor Server or Monitor wizard appears. Click Monitor Server Group and then click Next.

  1. Enter the Monitor Server Group name, a brief description, and enter one or more host names of servers to monitor. Click the Add button after entering a host name to add it to the list of hosts.
  2. The Monitoring Server Groups feature also adds the ability to show averages across a group of machines in the monitor charts. For example, you can show the average CPU usage of all web servers instead of one line per machine appearing in the chart.

During Monitor selection, a monitor group can be selected from the Monitor specification in the Monitors list. For example, LG1 and Liberty CPU are two hosts in a group.

  1. Choose which resources on the host to monitor. You can monitor System Resources, Application Servers, Databases, and ColdFusion development framework. For example, if you want to monitor a JBoss server, check the App Servers box.
  1. Enter the authentication information about the monitor server.

In SOASTA CloudTest, a monitor server typically requires the hostname and authentication credentials (with the exception of the built-in CPU Percentage, IO Kbytes Read, IO Kbytes Written, and Memory Usage of SOASTA CloudTest itself).

  1. Once a Monitor Server Group is configured, you should also create a monitor that uses that configured Monitor Server Group. Check the Summary screen > Create a Monitor for this Monitor Server Group box and then click Next, or leave the box unchecked and use the Central > Monitors > New command to create a monitor at a later time.

    In either case, click Finish.
